"THEY PLAY AND SING THE BLUES"
A
PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT
ESSAY
Want me to tell you some background on this new series of mine? I am happy to
do so.
There was a gratifying reception given to “The Visual Side of American Blues
Music: Photopaintings I and II” of 2002-2003. Thus I was invited to present an
art exhibit for the 2005 Bonterra Lowcountry Blues Bash in Charleston and the
Lowcountry of South Carolina.

This series “They Play and Sing the Blues: A Photographic Portrait Essay” is
the culmination of three years of digital image taking. What has emerged,
with the help of my 21st century computer, and my Dad's magnifying
glass, greatly pleases my
creative spirit.
Over 50 photographs have evolved into 8 ½ x 11” portraits in unobtrusive
matted frames. Each is ready to hang on a Blues performer’s wall or that of a
Blues fan. The series gives tribute in a visual essay to 36 Blues artists who
kindly allowed me to catch digital images while they were on-stage in the
midst of their soulful presentations before live audiences, nothing
contrived.
